The IF VBT function for CW allows you to narrow the CW bandpass down to around 100 Hz, so you may not need additional narrower CW filters either.Ĩ.
The SSB Slope Tuning works very well, making it unlikely that you'll need a narrow filter for SSB contesting.ħ.
The subreceiver comes with a narrow CW filter.Ħ. Press the "fine" button and the rate drops to 1 KHz/revolution.ĥ. The main tuning rate is selectable at 5 or 10 MHz per knob revolution. The LED metering allows any two of these transmitter parameters to be metered simultaneously: ALC, Ic, SWR, COMPĤ. The seldom used controls such as VOX gain, delay, anti-vox, are on the front panelģ. There are two spare open filter positions in the 8.83 IF and 1 in the 455 IF.Ģ. The bandwidth at 6 dB with like cascaded filters selected on SSB is 2.4 KHz, on CW, 400 Hz. Filters supplied with the transceiver: Main receiver- (1) 12 KHz, (2) 6 KHz, (2) 2.7 KHz, (2) 500 Hz. Any filter may be selected in either IF in any mode. See the reviews at the ARRL members website for differences between the SDX and earlier 950 models. My overall impression is that this is a first class transceiver with very few rough spots, all of which I can live with. What's important to me may not be important to you so read accordingly.
Mine is a later serial number and I don't know if these comments apply to all earlier serials. The following are my observations based on daily use of the TS-950SDX on SSB and CW. I recently acquired a TS-950SDX, and have had the opportunity to thoroughly shake it down in most modes. Kenwood's best ever - a super value in the used gear market After several weeks i was able to find a good used one but i did have to mail order it from France.I did note that most of these 950SDX had various mods that i did not want,This one is bog standard.Well the radio came from a French dealer with a very good rep.It came very well packaged this was a real worry for me ( i was told about the French Postal service,but it is 1ST class)Now on to the radio its been switched on for 3 days solid & i must say that the stability is top of the class.Any radio that can remain in a stabilized state for in excess of 36 hours gets my vote of confidence.Working mostly in Data mode this week-end i did venture to telephony on top band & 80M,with stock microphone all audio reports are very complementary & some thinking that i had a base mike.I know its early days for me to give it a full review but up to now i am very pleased with the radio it reminds me of my old TS-850 but with the short-comings of that fine radio shorted.
